This is my second book in this series, and it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. It was angsty, sad and yet, I enjoyed it.
Chloe Feildgain is a reporter who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. When she was in high school, Kyle Lane asked her to a dance, and then ruined her reputation. She never forgave him. So you can imagine how much hated it when Kyle moved in right next door to Chloe.
Kyle is a cop and the son of the town’s mayor (whom he hates, by the way). Kyle has had a thing for Chloe since that night in high school, and he decides he is going to prove to her that he’s a nice guy.
Chloe helps her deadbeat sister raise her two children, Trey, who is 14, and Gloria, who is a 3 or 4 year old. Claudia, the sister, is honestly one of the worst characters I’ve ever read. Nothing good about her. She is pure evil, and it’s amazing how good her kids turned out.
Kyle and Chloe begin a friendship of sorts that turns into something more. Chloe has a secret that threatens to ruin her relationship with Kyle. I have to say, this secret was a bit predictable. But it was an interesting part of the story.
The book itself was a little long. It was a good story though. It was nice to Gage and Lauren (from book 3) and I loved Trey and Gloria. They were the best part of the story.
The end was very dramatic and sad – a little warning, but overall, this book was good, and I would read the next book in the series.
