Title: Everything I Never Wanted

This wasn’t supposed to be my life.
One phone call was all it took to bring me back to the small town I had grown up in. Everything had changed, and staying away was no longer an option.
Four and a half years later, I was a widowed single father still here, still trying to pick up the pieces. We were doing just fine on our own, my little girl and me.
At least, we were until Camryn Parker stumbled into our lives. The woman was like a tornado after a hurricane; she was the storm I never saw approaching. Behind her beauty and sarcastic wit, she was just as broken as I pretended not to be. As hard as I tried to resist, it was impossible not to fall in love with her.
In the end, it took nearly losing it all for me to realize everything I never wanted was exactly what I needed.
I gave up my Kindle Unlimited membership earlier this year, when I started reading ARC’s. On Prime Day, it was $0.99 for three months and I jumped all over it! I found this little gem on Kindle Unlimited.
Tucker Jaxson is a single father raising his 5 year old daughter, Shayne. Tucker’s wife died when Shayne was 18-months old, and he’s been doing just fine raising her on his own. One day, he gets a new neighbor – Camryn Parker, and everything changes.
Camryn moved to Jaxson Cove, Florida, after the passing of her father (who raised her alone) and finding her fiancée had cheated on her. She wanted a fresh start, and got a job as the school nurse in Jaxson Cove. Tucker is a mechanic and owns his own shop, and he helps Camryn fix her car, and won’t charge her for it. As a gesture, Camryn makes homemade brownies to give to Tucker and is shocked when Shayne answers the door. Tucker hadn’t mentioned to Camryn that he had a daughter. Camryn mentioned that was something friends do, and Tucker shuts her down, saying he’s not looking for any friends.
Tucker realizes he’s been a dick to Camryn, and Shayne really takes to her. He apologizes, she accepts, and they begin a friendship. Camryn and Tucker are incredibly attracted to one another, but Tucker is very scared to open his heart to anyone. Once he finally gives in to his attraction, he’s shocked at how well he and Camryn are together.
Tucker’s back story is a little strange, and it doesn’t really come together until the end. Something happens at the end, and I didn’t love the way Tucker reacted, but I understood it.
The best part of the story, though, was Shayne. This adorable, sweet little girl who needed a woman’s love. She had her Grammy, but that’s not the same. She clung to Camryn and didn’t want to let go. She was just the sweetest character.
This book was a very fast read – I finished in one day. I very much enjoyed this one, and would recommend.
