Imagine Me by Fiona Cole

imagine meGoodreads Summary

Shane’s her brother’s best friend and thirteen years older than her. Juliana knows his desire to be the loner and to never settle down.

But none of that stops her from showing up at his hotel room late one night.

Months later, she imagines every scenario for when she runs into Shane again. However, she never imagined him brushing off their scorching night together. She never imagined him calling her a ‘little girl’ who can’t handle a man.

His words ignite a fire in Juliana. If she has to date every single guy in Cincinnati, she’ll prove that she is more than capable of “handling” a man. Except Juliana and Shane can’t stay away from each other, so they set up some rules; only sex, and no telling her brother.

It doesn’t take long for the sex to turn into feelings, and Juliana can feel his icy exterior melting. Is he willing to risk his best friend for a chance at love?

For Juliana, that might be too good to imagine.

2 1/2 out of 5 stars

I am quite surprised by the number of 5 star ratings for this book. It was NOT a 5 star story for me, but it easily could have been a 4 star – by having Shane’s story told as well, by Shane.

Juliana is a 25-year old who moved to Cincinnati to get away from her parents, who want her to be a “society wife” (really, in 2017?). Their reasoning – she’s the baby of the family (huh?). Anyway, her brother lives in Cincy with his new wife; it is also where his best friend Shane lives, who Juliana had a tryst with at their wedding.

Shane is 13-years older than Juliana, and takes every opportunity to remind her she’s a “little girl”. He has no problem using her for sex, but that’s all he wants.  He has a “dangerous job with long hours” and isn’t looking for a family.

There are several problems with this story. Here are a few:

  • Juliana’s family. God, they were annoying. She’s a 25-year old woman and they acted like she was a special needs child. No wonder she’s kind of immature.
  • Hudson, Juliana’s ex. His character was so irritating and really took away from the plot.
  • There wasn’t a lot of development in Jules and Shane’s relationship. It was sex to “I’m in love with you” to over to sex to ….. They had like one date.
  • Shane. Shane wasn’t a well developed character. He grew up in foster care and had a rough upbringing. I think having his story told through his eyes would have made it a lot better.
  • The epilogue took place days after the last chapter. I want to see what happens in the future, not in a few days! I hate when epilogues are like that!

I did like Jules’ friend Evie – god was she funny! The sex scenes were quite steamy but LONG; pages long. I skipped a lot of it.

Overall, this was a miss for me.

Happy reading.
