Sex in the Sticks by Sawyer Bennett

Goodreads Summary

sex in the sticksValentine French may be the sassiest dating columnist in New York City, but the abundance of metrosexuals in her adopted metropolis is seriously cramping her style. Where are the beefy all-American boys? Hoping to find some inspiration, Val heads to Alaska, where the men outnumber the women fifteen to one and wrestle grizzly bears for sport. Or so she can only imagine. Suddenly the most eligible bachelorette in a town full of horny lumberjacks, Val is writing her best columns ever. But if she doesn’t get her nose out of her laptop, she just might miss out on Mr. Right.
Logan Burke is the sheriff of the little podunk town that Val finds so charmingly backward. He’s not that different from the guys she’s using for her little experiment; it’s just that one date would never be enough for Logan. As he listens to Val complain about love over beers in the local tavern, he realizes that she can’t see the forest for the trees. Because if she would ever give up her Prada bags and fourteen-dollar martinis, Logan would give her the only luxury that matters: his heart.

4 out of 5 stars

I devoured this book in less than 24 hours!  Such a cute, fun read.

Valentine French is a wealthy socialite from Manhattan, who also happens to write a popular dating/sex blog called Valentine’s Couch.  Tired of the guys in New York, Val’s cousin Jeremy suggests a change of scenery – namely, Alaska, where men outnumber women 15:1.

Val takes Jeremy’s advice and heads to Alaska, and makes plans to stay in East Merritt.  Upon getting off her airplane, she’s shocked to learn there are no ubers or taxis (such a New Yorker).  Lucky for her, the police chief from East Merritt, Logan Burke, happens to be in town picking up a shipment.  He offers to drive Val to town.

Val is immediately the most popular girl in town.  She’s beautiful and funny.  Everyone takes to her right away, including Logan, though he’s a little slow to admit it.  Val has some misadventures in Alaska, like getting lost in the woods before nightfall and not realizing how cold it gets in Alaska at night.

Val’s plan is to date some of the local guys, which she does, to no avail.  After getting lost in the woods, and Logan finds her, she ends up at his house (because he has a bath tub) to warm up.  Their relationship changes from there.

I love small town stories like this.  I liked the people in this fun little town.   I will admit I didn’t like the way Logan acted when he found out about Val’s blog.  He was kind of a douche for 15% of the last 20% of the book.  He sure wasn’t acting like a 37-year old man.

Val’s blog didn’t bother me, but it was odd that she would blog about things in the town, and talk about the town by name.  And talk about the fact that Logan was the police chief.  Maybe she thought people outside of New York didn’t read her blog.

Val’s action in the last 20% of the book made me like her even more than I already did.  It’s odd when I like the woman more, but in this case, I do.

This was a super cute and fun read and I would recommend it.

Happy reading.
