Book Review – Zack by Sawyer Bennett

Rising star Zack Grantham has been stuck in a downward spiral of grief ever since the car accident that left him a single dad and put his career on hold. Back on the road with the Carolina Cold Fury and still crippled by emotional baggage, he’s in need of some serious help with his son. But while the nerdy new nanny wins his son’s heart, Zack isn’t sure he’s ready for a woman’s touch—even after getting a glimpse of the killer curves she’s hiding under those baggy clothes.

Kate Francis usually keeps men like Zack at a distance. Though his athlete’s body is honed to perfection, he refuses to move on with his life—and besides, he’s her boss. Still, the sparks between them are undeniable, tempting Kate to turn their professional relationship into a personal one. But before she makes a power play for Zack’s wounded heart, Kate will have to open him up again and show him that love is worth the fight.

3 1/2 out of 5 stars

Zack is the third book in the Cold Fury series.  The Cold Fury are the pro hockey team in Carolina.  Zack lost his girlfriend in a car accident and is now a single dad raising his child by himself.  Now that he is recovering his injuries, he will need a nanny to help raise his 3 year old son, Ben.  Enter Kate.

Kate is an adorkable nerd from the backwoods in North Carolina.  She grew up dirt poor.  Literally.  She has a killer figure, but hides under clothes she buys at the thrift store, because it’s all she can afford.  She takes the job as Ben’s nanny because she really needs the money.

Zack is racked with guilt over the death of his girlfriend.  He feels like the can’t move on with his life due to his guilt.  Once he sees Kate outside of her frumpy clothes, he realizes how beautiful she is.  Add that to the fact that Kate is amazing with her son, and Zack soon realizes he’s sunk.

This is a fast read.  Zack makes you want to punch him quite a few times, and while I really liked Kate, I hated that she was a doormat for Zack.  Ben was a sweet kid.  Good story, not the best in the series.  Hoping the next book is about Ryker.
