Summary from

It didn’t matter that the ref called it a clean hit. Nico Hunter would never be the same.

Elle has a good life. A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she’s been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half. But it’s boring…and she strives to keep it that way. Too many emotions are dangerous. Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.

Then Nico walks into Elle’s office and everything changes…for both of them. But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common? A lot more than they bargained for.

My review:

I love a good “fighter” book, so I thought I’d give this book a try.  The cover alone is yummy, and I was hoping the story would be as well.  I was not disappointed.

Elle is a lawyer, and has been “dating” William for two years.  Their relationship is more cordial than loving, and they have sex once a week.  Then one day, Nico Hunter walks into her office and everything changes.  Nico is at her law firm to go over some contracts he is trying to get out of, and William is his attorney.  She is instantly attracted to him-and that scares her.  Elle has a deep secret (which was pretty sad) and it causes her to deem herself in a bad light.

Nico took the life of the last man he fought in the cage.  It was an accident of course, but he can’t get past it.  Once he sees Elle, he’s intrigued.  He shows up at her office, telling her he has some more details to add to their meeting earlier, but he really just wants to see her.  Nico takes their relationship slow, and it frustrates Elle.  She doesn’t realize that he is taking it slow because his feelings run deeper than he’s willing to admit.

I liked the pace that Elle and Nico’s relationship moved.  Nico runs a gym in his home, and brings in kids who have a tough time.  One of those kids is Vinny, and he is a great supporting character.  Elle’s best friend is Regina, and I liked her, but it wasn’t really clear to me how they became friends.  Elle kept saying how Regina “saved her life” but I missed how that happened.  Not super relevant but would have been nice to know.  I also like Nico’s trainer, Preach.

Overall, this is a good story about two people with demons overcoming them with each other’s help and strength.  It’s a fast paced story, and well worth the read.
